Turck Introduces Compact IP67 Controller with CODESYS 3 Enables Machine Control outside the Cabinet

May 3, 2017

Turck has released its TBEN-PLC Codesys 3 compact IP67 PLC for controlling small or modular machines. Thanks to its robust housing and high degree of environmental protection, the TBEN-PLC can operate directly on-machine, enabling the implementation of machine control without the need for a control cabinet. Using machine automation concepts and the use of pre-assembled cordsets reduce the cabling e ort and simplify installation.

The wide variety of eldbus communication protocols supported underlines the tre- mendous exibility of the new TBEN-PLC; when used as a master/scanner, the device supports the industrial Ethernet protocols Pro net, EtherNet/IP and Modbus TCP, as well as Modbus RTU, CANopen and SAE J1939.

The TBEN-PLC can also be used as a remote IO device for Pro net, EtherNet/IP, Mod- bus TCP, Modbus RTU and CANopen networks, enabling use as a protocol converter or gateway. For example, the controller can function as a CANopen manager for machine module and connect this local network to a higher level system commu- nicating over Pro net. As part of the increasing digitization of industry, this enables existing machine controls to be integrated into modern closely networked, highly exible production systems.

Two onboard serial ports can also be used to integrate RS-232/485 serial devices. The device provides eight con gurable discrete I/O channels for the direct connection
of sensors and actuators. When combined with Turck’s eldbus technology products with IP67 protection, comprehensive machine control including safety technology can be completely implemented without the need for a control cabinet.

LÜTZE has expanded the 10A DC current control module LCOS-CC so that it now has the UL 508 and UL 2367 approvals

April 13, 2017

With LCOS, LÜTZE has developed an IP20 housing system which can be extended through tool-free plug-in modules, such as the LCOS-CCi, to form a complete and modular I/O system. As a 'Supplementary Protection Device', the LCOS-CC is an intelligent solid state relay circuit breaker that prevents wires and connected devices from overloading and short-circuiting. LÜTZE offers the current control LCOS-CC in two different versions: as a 1-channel, and a 2-channel version.

One of the main advantages of the LCOS-CC is the integrated energy bus and the direct load connection to '+' and '–'. In accordance with the housing philosophy of LCOS Systems, all terminal blocks are pluggable, and therefore suitable for tool-free construction or module replacement. The wiring expenses are thus substantially reduced in comparison to conventional systems. On the input side, the nominal voltage of the LÜTZE LCOS-CC totals DC 24V.

In the 2-channel design, the direct connection of the load is duplicated. Status messages take place as optical and electrical signals for each channel separately, either as collective fault messages or on achievement of the 90 percent utilisation.

In the single-channel version, the fuse has two pins (+,-) and galvanic isolation. All other functions are identical to the 1-channel version.

Background to modular LCOS housing system
The LCOS electronic housing is based on a device carrier that holds the separate housings or the plug-in function units. Plug-in data or power modules with supply options can supply power to the system and permit the construction of a modular data or power bus.

Banner Engineering introduces Programmable Audible Segment for TL70 Tower Lights

April 13, 2017

Provide clear communication of status with Banner’s new programmable audible segment for the TL70 Modular Tower Light. This easy-to-program module allows users to create a custom audible alert or announcement to correspond with a change in status. An alert can be as simple as a short series of tones or as complex as a multilingual set of instructions; users are limited only by the length of the sound file.

Turck Introduces New Rugged, Compact RFID Interface Ideal for Retrofitting RFID Applications

April 3, 2017

To meet the ever-shrinking dimensional needs of devices on the factory floor, Turck has developed a compact TBEN-S-RFID interface with an IP67 rating.

The multiprotocol devices bring data from RFID read/write heads in the HF and UHF frequency band via PROFINET, EtherNet/IP or Modbus TCP to the controller. Due to their ability to connect actuators and sensors to RFID read/write heads simultaneously, the block modules are ideal for retrofitting RFID applications. Additionally, thanks to their high degree of protection, cabinets are unnecessary and keep the wiring effort at a minimum, saving users time and money.

“The new TBEN-S-RFID interface offers our customers the perfect combination of our long-standing RFID interfaces,” said Don Eichman, Product Manager. “The advanced features of our RFID-A module and the simplistic integration of our RFID-S module are now wrapped up in one rugged and versatile little package.”

The ultra-compact TBEN-S-RFID module eliminates complex PLC integration with its conventionally mapped RFID data. In addition to two RFID ports, the TBEN-S offers four configurable digital I/O points for external devices. Despite its compact design, with a width of only 32 mm, the TBEN-S-RFID interface offers highly efficient performance. The detection of over 100 UHF tags can be carried out just as quickly and easily as the reading and writing of 8-kilobyte HF tags. The power supply and network connection are implemented via M8 connectors.
